How do I reset a GFI plug?

GFI plugs are by code required to be installed five feet from any water supply and in any outdoor box.  Also in garages.  There are two buttons on all GFI plugs.  One is a test button and the other is a reset button.  The reset button will be pushed out.  To reset the plug simply push in the button.  The plug will not reset if there is no power at the plug.  Most of the time GFI plugs will be tied together with other plugs near water or outdoors.  If the GFI plug gets tripped then all of the plugs down the line will not work.  Simply fine the GFI plug that is tripped and reset it.

How to reset a circuit breaker?

Circuit breakers have three positions; off, on, and tripped.  Off will be on one side, on on the other and tripped in the middle.  The tripped breaker will be in the middle position.  To reset a breaker just flip the breaker to the off position and back to the on position.  Your power should be restored.  If the breaker won't reset or power doesn't come back on then contact us and we'll come out and take a look at it.

What do I do when the power goes out?

Check to see if the power is out in the neighborhood.  If the whole neighborhood doesn't have power then call your power provider company and report a loss of power.  If the power is out only in your house then find your service panel and check for any tripped breakers.  Also check your main breaker.  Simply reset any tripped breakers.

I only have some rooms that don't have power.  What is wrong?

Most houses will have lights on one circuit breaker, and plugs on another circuit breaker.  Check to see if the lights work but not the plugs, or the other way around.  Check your service panel to see if there are any breakers that are tripped.  Also check your house for any sub panels.  Most of the time it will be a tripped breaker for plugs.  You may have had to much of a load on one circuit.  If nothing is tripped then call us and we'll come out and troubleshoot the problem.
